DHA Overview

The Defense Health Agency (DHA) is a joint, integrated Combat Support Agency that enables the Army, Navy, and Air Force medical services to provide a medically ready force and a ready medical force to Combatant Commands during peacetime and wartime. Established to enhance the delivery of integrated, affordable, and high-quality health services, the DHA supports Military Health System (MHS) beneficiaries and drives the integration of clinical and business processes across the MHS. The agency plays a pivotal role in ensuring military personnel and their families receive comprehensive healthcare, thus maintaining operational readiness and overall force health protection.

Position Overview

Pantheon Data seeks a Human Factors Engineer SME to apply human factors principles and methodologies to optimize the interaction between DHA, healthcare providers, patients and medical technologies. The HFE Specialist will work closely with and across multidisciplinary teams to design, evaluate, and improve the military healthcare systems, processes, and tools ensuring they are safe, efficient and user-friendly.

Responsibilities

  • Apply Human factors principles to the design, evaluation, and improvement of healthcare systems and technologies.
  • Conduct user research, including observations, interviews, and usability testing, to gather data on user needs, behaviors, and challenges.
  • Develop and implement user-centered design processes and methodologies.
  • Create user personas, journey maps, and task analyses to inform design decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, clinicians, and policymakers, to integrate human factors considerations into project plans.
  • Analyze and interpret human performance data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate stakeholders on human factors principles and best practices.
  • Prepare and present findings, recommendations, and reports to senior leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations related to human factors and ergonomics.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of implemented changes on user experience and system performance.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in the application of Human Systems Integration (HSI) standards, including any rules relating to HFE/HSI requirements, and applicable DoD standards.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or 15+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Must have a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Must have 7 years of demonstrated experience supporting a major DOD program or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of human factors principles, methodologies, and tools.
  • Experience conducting user research and usability testing.
  • Deep proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Demonstrate ability to identify HFE/HSI issues, conduct complex analyses and assessment of these issues, and provide advice to major program/project leaders.
  • Must be proficient with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Share Point and MS Outlook, as well as usability testing software and tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with industry trends and advancements.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Master's degree or higher in a related field.
  • 5+ years demonstrated experience supporting healthcare systems and medical technology.
  • Must be proficient with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Share Point and MS Outlook, as well as other software/tools provided on the contract Standard Workstation and provided for a specific position.
  • Certification in Human Factors Engineering (e.g., Certified Human Factors Professional (CHFP)).
  • Experience with systems development life cycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies/practices.
  • Familiarity with relevant standards and regulations such as ISO 9241, ANSI/AAMI HE75, and FDA guidance on human factors engineering for medical devices.
  • Experience developing and delivering training programs related to human factors.
  • Experience supporting a major surface acquisition program at DoD or healthcare agency/industry.

U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust

San Antonio, TX -Falls, Church, VA -Remote

*The Government reserves the right to change where this work will be performed, and light travel may be requested occasionally. Ideal cities and states with access to Government facilities are: Falls Church, VA, Washington, DC, San Antonio, TX, and Aurora, CO

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $175,000 - $215,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
