Position Overview:
KGI is seeking a Senior level AI/ML/Data Engineer with a strong background in AI/ML/Data to serve as the technical lead of a growing team of engineers. A successful candidate will have a history of proven leadership of small to mid-sized engineering teams. They should have extensive knowledge of AI/ML/Data concepts and hands-on experience developing products and solutions that use A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) and ML (Machine Learning) to analyze large data sets and optimize workflows. A candidate with experience in all product development lifecycle phases will be preferred. They will also be able to communicate clearly and effectively with engineers and less technical team members (e.g., project managers, customers, and executive teams).
Responsibilities:
- Inform ML product decisions by understanding ML modeling techniques and issues, including choice of model, data, feature selection, model training, hyperparameter tuning, dimensionality, bias/variance, and validation.
- Direct and encourage engineering team members toward prompt delivery of best-in-class technical solutions.
- Leverage or build cloud-based architectures, technologies, and/or platforms to deliver optimized ML-backed solutions at scale.
- Ensure all code is well-managed to reduce vulnerabilities, models are well-governed from a risk perspective, and the ML follows best practices in Responsible and Explainable A.I.
- Supply leadership and technical guidance to a growing team of AI/ML engineers during the product development lifecycle.
- Communicate with the project manager(s) to interpret customer requirements and assign engineering tasks accordingly.
- Collaborate with the project manager(s) and team members to architect solutions that exceed customer expectations.
- Recruit team members by reviewing resumes, conducting interviews, and delivering hiring recommendations.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Statistics, and Applied Mathematics
- 5+ years of professional hands-on experience as an AI/ML engineer and data scientist
- Proficiency and demonstrated experience in Apache Spark or a similar distributed computing system.
- Proficiency in one of the public cloud platforms, such as AWS/Azure/GCP, related to their Machine Learning Offerings
- Deep knowledge of Machine Learning algorithms for classification, regression, or ranking problems
- Experience with deep learning and neural networks in computer vision and NLP. Background in machine learning frameworks like Tensorflow, PyTorch, SkLearn, or Keras
- Demonstrated experience in building, deploying, and operating A.L./ML-powered applications at scale in production
- Experience with programming languages like Python, R, Scala, and NoSQL backends
- Professional experience as a technical team lead
- Strong understanding of all components that make up AI/ML algorithms, solution design, and development.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact clearly and succinctly in written and oral presentations.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and organized
Clearance Requirements:
- U.S. citizenship required
- Must be able to obtain DoD Secret Clearance.
Work Location:
- Remote (Fairfax, VA)
Preferred Skills:
- Working knowledge of Agile Scrum methodology
- JIRA/Confluence
- PhD. in data engineering, specifically artificial intelligence and machine learning
- AWS (Amazon Web Services) and/or Microsoft Azure. Certification(s) a plus.
